BANGKOK, Thailand – Heavy rain is forecast to persist across the western Central Plains on Sunday, while conditions in Greater Bangkok and the East are expected to ease, according to the Meteorological Department.

Heavy Rain Forces Suspension of Five Eastern Bus Routes

Director-general Sugunyanee Yavinchan attributed the weather to a low-pressure cell sitting over the western Central Plains combined with a relatively strong southwest monsoon sweeping the Andaman Sea, the South and the Gulf of Thailand.

She cautioned residents to steer clear of low-lying areas and flood-prone roads that could become temporarily inundated, and advised keeping small boats ashore in the upper Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea until Monday.

From Monday through Friday, rainfall is expected to taper off nationwide, although isolated heavy downpours may still hit the western North and Central Plains as an active low-pressure cell drifts from Thailand into Myanmar.
